Tretiva is used to treat a severe form of acne known as nodular acne, which has not improved with other treatments. Nodular acne consists of inflamed lumps caused by excessive sebum (facial oil) production. Tretiva is a vitamin A derivative that reduces sebum production, helping to prevent permanent scarring on the face. This medication is classified as a retinoid.

The prescribed dosage of Tretiva may differ from one patient to another. Always adhere to your doctor's recommendations and/or the instructions on the prescription label. If your doctor has advised you to take Tretiva on a regular basis and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose unless instructed otherwise.

Taking any medication in larger amounts than prescribed can lead to serious repercussions. If you believe you have overdosed on Tretiva, contact your physician or poison control center right away. Symptoms of an overdose may include loss of balance, vomiting, stomach pain, facial flushing, and headaches.

As with other medications, Tretiva may lead to some side effects. If they occur, they are usually mild and temporary. However, some side effects can be severe and necessitate immediate communication with your doctor or a visit to the nearest hospital. It's important to remember that side effects from Tretiva cannot be predicted. If any side effects arise or their severity changes, inform your doctor as soon as possible.

Tretiva has the potential to cause birth defects, issues with bones and muscles, abdominal complications, hearing and vision impairments, painful swallowing, dark urine, rectal bleeding, severe heartburn, dizziness, and intense headaches. This list does not encompass all possible side effects. Always consult your doctor and adhere strictly to their guidelines while taking Tretiva.
